Why I'm an L&D Lifer
I've spent my entire career in workplace education, because I love it.
I'm one of those lucky individuals that found their professional calling early on. My first role after college was as a facilitator at a customer contact center. I was hooked immediately. I found I had a knack for simplifying complex ideas, making "boring" topics fun, and communicating information to a wide variety of learners in a way that sunk in and stuck.
These skills allowed me to excel as a facilitator. This success brought opportunities to move into instructional design, where I was able to utilize my skills to create quality learning opportunities on a larger scale.
And this is when I truly found my passion and purpose. I am greatly fulfilled by my work in instructional design because throughout a decade of evaluation and analysis, I know the end results. Training can change the trajectory of a career and it can alter the course of an entire organization, for better, or for worse.
My professional purpose is to ensure that every training I touch propels everyone forward in the best possible way. All boats rise together.
What I'm Looking For
I'm looking for my long term professional home.
I'll admit something that I maybe shouldn't - I'm a bit of a "work homebody". I'm the opposite of a job hopper, I don't like being the new guy. Don't get me wrong, I'm very driven, I am always seeking growth and development, but my ideal would be to grow and advance within one organization.
I'm happiest when I am an expert in my area. I enjoy being the go-to person on multiple fronts, and when I can devote myself to an organization, having the satisfaction of knowing I am contributing at my highest potential.
I am looking for that organization. I want an employer I can believe and invest in, and that will in turn, believe and invest in me.
