I've spent my entire career in workplace education, because I love it.
I'm one of those lucky individuals that found their professional calling early on. My first role after college was as a facilitator at a customer contact center. I was hooked immediately. I found I had a knack for simplifying complex ideas, making "boring" topics fun, and communicating information to a wide variety of learners in a way that sunk in and stuck.
These skills allowed me to excel as a facilitator. This success brought opportunities to move into instructional design, where I was able to utilize my skills to create quality learning opportunities on a larger scale.
And this is when I truly found my passion and purpose. I am greatly fulfilled by my work in instructional design because throughout a decade of evaluation and analysis, I know the end results. Training can change the trajectory of a career and it can alter the course of an entire organization, for better, or for worse.
My professional purpose is to ensure that every training I touch propels everyone forward in the best possible way. All boats rise together.
I'm always looking for my next challenge.
I love work that further develops my skillset. Whether it be due to utilizing new technology, designing with unfamiliar methodologies, an industry for which I haven't yet designed, an aspect of development I haven't performed for a while, or any number of factors, I find that each new role, contract, and project brings new insights, enhances my competencies, and makes me an all-around more skilled and effective learning and development professional.
I'm very drawn to opportunities where I can make a difference.
I'm driven to contribute. When I am told that an L&D department is modernizing their content, taking on a new initiative, or focused on improving training support of their organization and its employees, I get excited. I know that I will have ample opportunities to utilize my knowledge and experience to help that team achieve their goal, thereby making a real difference to the organization and its people.
